Engagement Summaries

State of Alaska

The State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, Division of Juvenile Justice, requested support in reducing the incidence of physical restraints on juvenile offenders through the use of a client behavior management system, including a broad continuum of responses for youth behavior and physical management.

City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County, VA

The Evidence Based Decision Making Policy Team, made up of criminal justice agencies from the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County, VA, requested assistance in analyzing its system-wide response to domestic and intimate partner violence (DV/IPV) across two jurisdictions with a focus on improving offender accountability and victim outcomes.

City of Fayetteville, NC

The city of Fayetteville, North Carolina requested assistance identifying factors that contribute to the increase in violent crime among young adults; (2) evaluating internal policies and practices on the use of force, traffic stops, citizen complaint data and training; and (3) improving community-police relations.

City of Fort Myers, FL

The city of Fort Myers, FL requested the Diagnostic Center’s assistance in identifying evidence-based solutions to address violent crime – specifically homicides – and improve community-police relations.

City of Gary, IN

The city of Gary, Indiana requested assistance in identifying data-driven solutions to youth-related violent crime, as well as processes for identifying and informing policy makers about crime trends and community resources.

City of Minneapolis, MN

The city of Minneapolis, Minnesota requested an assessment of the department’s current policies and practices related to the police conduct and oversight process and asked for recommendations to make needed improvements in police accountability.

City of Niagara Falls, NY

The Niagara Falls Police Department requested Diagnostic Center support to combat tourism-related crime by using data-driven policing strategies.

DC Office of Victim Services

The DC Office of Victim Services requested assistance in analyzing processes for reporting and non-reporting adult victims of sexual assault.

Diagnostic Analyses

Albert Lea Police Department: City of Albert Lea, MN

In August 2014, the Diagnostic Center presented its analysis of the potential for sex trafficking in Albert Lea, MN.

City of Durham: Durham, NC

In April 2015, the Diagnostic Center released the findings of its assessment of violence and police-community relations in the city of Durham. In addition to outlining the city of Durham’s strengths and challenges, the Diagnostic Analysis provides recommendations for areas of improvement.

East Haven Police Department: Town of East Haven, CT

In April 2014, the Diagnostic Center presented the East Haven Police Department with findings of its assessment of EHPD police effectiveness and accountability.

Fayetteville Police Department: City of Fayetteville, NC

In December 2014, the Diagnostic Center presented findings from its assessment of disparate perceptions of police-community relations in Fayetteville, NC to members of the City Council and local community.

Minneapolis Police Department: City of Minneapolis, MN

In January 2015, the Diagnostic Center presented findings from its independent assessment of the Minneapolis Police Department’s officer oversight and discipline process. The Diagnostic Analysis outlines recommendations in five key areas: early intervention system, strengthening coaching, transparency in the police conduct and oversight process, police-community relations, and strategic communications.

Metro East Police District Commission: East St. Louis, IL

In February 2015, the Diagnostic Center presented the Metro East Police District Commission with findings from its Diagnostic Analysis which examines key factors (i.e., officer professionalism, accountability and integrity, cross-jurisdictional violent crime, law enforcement practices, operational processes, organizational capacity and municipal oversight) contributing public safety issues and offers recommendations for implementing a framework for sharing law enforcement services.

City of Seattle: Seattle, WA

In April2015, the Diagnostic Center presented the City of Seattle with findings from its Diagnostic Analysis which examines the scope of juvenile domestic violence within the city of Seattle. The Diagnostic Analysis also includes a resource guide which provides a brief overview of research on juvenile domestic violence.
