Pittsburgh Police Chief Cameron McLay offers an insightful community call to action during this time of early engagement with the National Initiative: We each need to play our part in improving procedural justice. Chief McLay offers that police reform can only be achieved when every party is held accountable for his or her actions – including those who have authority and those who do not. Advocating for strong and responsible leadership to set the tone for system-wide reform, Chief McLay states that, “Responsibility for the social, economic and political conditions giving rise to conflict does not rest with the police, nor will the solutions. In a democracy, we all have a voice in creating meaningful change… Police reform is community reform. It is social-justice reform. And we all must join in.”
