On April 20, the Minnesota Daily covered Minneapolis’ involvement in the National Initiative, stressing the city’s focus on building trust between its police department and residents through decreasing officer implicit bias.
In 2013, the Minneapolis Police Chief, Janeé Harteau, requested Diagnostic Center assistance in investigating the city’s policing practices. Investigation findings were released in January, and the Diagnostic Center issued a report to provide recommendations for overcoming racial disparities. To continue in its effort to help stop racial bias and improve law enforcement practices, Minneapolis is participating in the National Initiative pilot program, whereby the police department will partake in community outreach events and enlist officers in training on implicit bias.
