Springettsbury Township Police Department to be Recognized for Bridging the Gap Between the Community and the Police

Springettsbury Township (PA) Police Chief Daniel Stump and his department will receive the Crispus Attucks Community Association’s Heart of Change Community Service Award this Sunday March 19 for their efforts in bridging the gap between the community and the police. Last year, the Diagnostic Center began working with Chief Stump and the Springettsbury Township Police Department (STPD) to identify agency blind spots and help the department develop stronger community relations. Chief Stump noted, “It’s not very easy to open your doors and ask people in and identify your problems…the easy path is not always the best path.” As part of this review, the STPD reached out to the Crispus Attucks Community Association to play a role in the assessment. Crispus Attucks is recognizing the Springettsbury Township Police Department and two other law enforcement agencies for their work in improving relations with minority communities. The recent York Daily Record article Bridging the Gap Between the Community and the Police discusses the successes of these three departments in light of Sunday’s event.
